Is it common for people to eat alone in a restaurant in your country?

  1. In Hong Kong I see many people eating alone at cheaper-eats such as McD's, though not too many at more expensive restaurants. Middle aged-older people like scouting out good deals and often eat alone for breakfast or lunch at buffet style dim sum restaurants common in China. For lunch, there are usually groups of business workers who go to eat in the noodle shops in the financial district, though it is common for them to eat alone too because of the short time they get for lunch and limited seating, it is more convenient to eat alone sometimes to save time from chit-chatting.
It is not such a stigma to eat alone for people of any age group because Hong Kong-ers understand the busy city lifestyle and how eating cannot always be enjoyed and has to sometimes be rushed.

  3. I do not think that many people in the United States eat alone for the simple fact that they don't want to seem like they don't have friends haha I enjoy alone time, but would much prefer to share a meal with a friend or family member. If someone is in a hurry, it makes since to eat alone, but I think in general wanted to break bread with enjoyable company is common.

  4. I do not think that it is very common to eat alone in public places in the United States, especially for young people. Most people prefer to have company if they are going out somewhere.
