Why Asians hold hands or have their arms around each other when they walk together?

"I have been wondering way when many Asians walk down the road they hold hands, or have their arms around each other. I'm not sure if they are just more comfortable with each other, or if it is deeper than that."

You know, now that Maranda brings it up, I've noticed this, too.

  3. I agree. To go along with what Maranda said, why is it that you look so good while you ling arms walking down the street. It seems like a lot of the Asian students here have incredible fashion sense! Why is that? We Americans are envious.

  4. This is interesting that you have noticed that. I remember being like them too when I first came to the U.S. a few years ago. But later, I learned that Americans see this as a homosexual behavior, and I stopped doing it. In Hong Kong (I don't want to speak for the entire Asia), it is acceptable for female friends to have their arms around each other. It may be because it is usually very crowded on the streets, and if we don't stick together, we may lose each other.
